The 10th AMA: Bar Chow For Kythe Foundation

written by Gail Sotelo September 18, 2024

I’m at an age where it takes a lot to make me cry… least of all during a negotiation.

Then, I met William Bayot. The proverbial struggle to hold back my tears became so real that I had to call my husband after the negotiation to, well, sob.

So, how did I get here.

William is a passionate storyteller and the best spokesman imaginable for Kythe Foundation Inc. Through his intimate, firsthand stories I learned that there are only 10 staff in the foundation handling the play, educational, emotional, and financial needs of thousands of beautiful, resilient pediatric cancer patients scattered across 10 government hospitals. As F&B people, it also shattered us to find out that sometimes the kids fail to achieve remission just because they couldn’t fund their nutritional or medical needs after chemo.

Bless William’s massive heart, he also invited Jonas, my husband Chad and I to his birthday celebration. Co-celebrating it with their celebrity ambassador Jodi Sta. Maria, the party was a great venue for the kids to take time out of the hospital and just be kids. We were privileged to have been “assigned” a few… For several hours we all forgot that they were dealing with life-threatening situations on the daily. There were a few reminders though: The hair loss from chemo, some of the kids being too small for their ages, a kid suddenly developing a massive headache… and a certain kind of depth that could only come from people who have “seen things.”

I thought, man… Life can be so unfair. Isn’t this the age where they shouldn’t have a care in the world and just be children?

Woosah.

Anyway. Keeping Kythe Foundation together given their financial and human resource situation is obviously a massive undertaking… So we asked ourselves:

How can we help?

The next Ask Me Anything will be our 10th and biggest one yet (also our last for the year!). Joining us will mean:

  1. Part of ticket sales will help fund the nutritional and medical expenses of the pediatric cancer patients under Kythe Foundation Inc.’s care
  2. AMA audiences (live or otherwise) will not only get to donate but have fun while learning how to make easy-to-prepare bar chow designed by Chef Jonas Ng… paired with drinks that I have personally curated, of course (there will be beer, a cocktail, copious amounts of wine, and a surprise!)
  3. We can help connect the audience with members of Kythe Foundation for direct donations and even sponsoring a child

Bonus: Our generous friends from RLC Residences are also going to raffle off a few prizes!

A minimum of Php600 donation will get you a seat… or if being with us physically is too prohibitive, we are also recording the show and sending the link to generous donors.

See you in James & Daughters Estancia Mall on 12 October 2024, 5:00pm!
