The word “partner” can mean a myriad of different things to different people.
It could mean a buddy… someone who shares the same interests with another person (the term “partner-in-crime” comes to mind).
It could mean a business partner… or a couple of people collaborating to achieve the same goal (hopefully a positive one).
It could also simply mean something that goes together with something else, such as good food paired with good wine (my personal favorite, naturally).
Having said that, I’m excited to announce our upcoming online Ask Me Anything Valentine’s Special happening on 12 February 2021 with my buddy Chef Jonas Ng (James and Daughters). We will talk about food and wine pairing ideas anybody can do in the comfort of their own homes, paired with delicious wine from our wine partner, Don Revy Philippines. 100% of the ticket sales will go to our friends who are working on the rebuilding efforts in Siargao and Negros… areas that were badly hit by typhoon Odette last December.
Bonus: Jonas is gonna make me cook live. I’m a decent home cook (as my husband, sister, and friends say), but I confess to not having any semblance of knife skills… and I can’t plate to save or end my life. So that’s gonna make the event… interesting. #sendhelp

Speaking of friends, I kept getting asked by people (especially those who have joined one of our AMAs before): What wine should we prepare?
Yes, participants can drink with us. Might I suggest any of the wines we’re featuring for the event:
Pebble Lane Sauvignon Blanc

I chose this because it’s one of my favorite styles. Perfectly chilled, it’s refreshing to drink on a warm weather day… with enough character to make it easy to pair with a number of different dishes. A Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc for me is one of my fail-safe “I won’t be embarrassed if I bring this to a party” wines, with most bottles having the same wonderfully crisp expressions of gooseberries and passionfruit. I also like the fact that I see it in supermarkets (and online), so it’s easy enough to stock up one some for Valentine’s Day.
Elderton Estate Barossa Shiraz

I like this wine because it expresses what a quintessential Barossa Shiraz is – without breaking the bank. I tend to enjoy big, powerful reds that pair well with food… and this one is just that, while giving it a velvety enough texture to be consumed on its own. The black pepper and spice aromas plus dark fruit characters typical of a Shiraz are pretty evident on the nose, but the rich chocolate and dark cherry flavors of the wine just sends it over the top for me.
Elderton Golden Semillon

I think that every wonderful meal should end with a delectable dessert… and the same principle should apply to dessert wine. I’m not a big fan of sweets, which is why I like this… It’s sweet without being aggressively cloying. It has wonderful flavors of honeysuckle, figs, toffee, candied fruits, apricots, and hints of marmalade… balanced by a healthy amount of acidity.
