Wines as far as the eye can see (or my feet can walk)…
A cornucopia of delectable food…
…And darned good company.
That’s how the biggest wine event in Metro Manila, The Grand Wine Experience, has always been.
The Grand Wine Experience is celebrating its 19th year with a fitting theme, Generations. As Jorge Joseph, Area Sales and Marketing Manager of Philippine Wine Merchants put it, “(the event) will highlight that the story of wine is one of legacy. As roots widen and deepen as the vine ages, so too does the role heritage plays across every generation. Winemaking is not just an art, but a tradition passed down from one custodian of the land to another, from one family to the next. Families preserve the reputation and protect the brand and estate. They cultivate and refine the methods and practices handed down to them by their forebearers, and bequeath them to their most immediate, most trusted, and most loved.”

This year will feature 700 (yes, 700… That’s 200 more than the previous year!) varieties of wines, spirits, sake, and beers, with dishes curated by Meik Brammer*, Executive Chef of Manila Marriott Hotel.

We were treated to a little preview of some of the wines during the media launch, which featured Freixenet Elyssia Pinot Noir Brut Rosé Cava, Haart to Heart Mosel Riesling, Montes Alpha Special Cuvée Pinot Noir, and Disznoko Late Harvest Tokaji.

Personally, I’m looking forward to discovering wines from unusual wine regions, like Greek and Israeli wines.
I’m also feeling a little sentimental knowing that it would be by 9th GWE. Here’s a little throwback photo from my first one:

The 19th Grand Wine Experience is happening on Friday, 15 November 2019, at the Grand Ballroom of Manila Marriott Hotel. Gates will open at 5:30pm.
Here’s to another Grand Wine Experience that would certainly be one for the books. Cheers!
*We heard about a German bulalo that Brammer will feature during the event 😉
